Vietnam likely to take the host over Cambodia on SEA Games in 2011

HANOI, March 16 (Xinhuanet) -- Vietnam should register for hosting the 26th Southeast Asian (SEA) Games in 2011, if Cambodia officially refuses to do it, a local sports official said Thursday.

Hun Sen, Prime minister of Cambodia, announced that due to Cambodian limited resources, the organization of the ASEAN (Association of SoutheastAsian Nations) Summit in 2011, and National Assembly elections in 2012 is more important and necessary than the games. He suggested that Cambodia could host the games in 2020 or 2030.

Cambodia cancels plans to host 2011 SEA regional games

Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen on Tuesday 14-March-2006 announced the cancellation of his country’s plans to host a major regional sporting event, the 2011 Southeast Asian Games, due to financial and logistical constrains. He said in a speech at a graduation ceremony at National Institute of Education in Phnom Penh near Monument of Independent.

Cambodia PM pledges better governance at donors meets, on 2-3/March/2006.

Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen pledged on Thursday to improve governance as his government sought more than $500 million from foreign donors demanding action against corruption and mismanagement.

"We need to work on improving governance further if we are to make more of a dent in poverty. We have no room for complacency," Hun Sen said at the start of the two-day annual donors meeting in
